"Hi, POP" exhibition of pop art

Seoul Art Center «M CONTEMPORARY» hosts an exhibition of pop art «HI, POP» from December 15, 2017 to April 15, 2018

Pop art is a movement in the visual arts of Western Europe and the USA that was popular in the late 50-60s. Originally this term was used to refer to media products, not works of art. Pop art reflects the culture of the 1960s and shows the objects characteristic of the consumption society of that time.

At the exhibition you can find collections of artworks of five most famous representatives of pop art:

1. Roy Lichtenstein (1923 - 1997) used illustrations from comics and cartoons in his works, spicing them with irony and sarcasm. We are sure that not many people know this person, but everyone is familiar with at least one of his paintings, for example, «Girl with hair ribbon».

2. Andy Warhol (1928 - 1987) worked with Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, Jacqueline Kennedy and had his own philosophy of creating a portrait - the total perfection of a person on the canvas. He retouched all defects - even small wrinkles - and sometimes changed celebs’ face features to make everything look perfect! By the way, it was Andy Warhol who was the first in using paints of acid colors.

3. Robert Rauschenberg (1925 - 2008) was a great admirer of the technique of collage and created works of art from seemingly incompatible things: scraps of newspapers, rusty nails, photographs, stuffed animals, car tires, etc.

4. Keith Haring (1958 - 1990) began the path to success with the murals of the black walls of the New York subway. Topics of his work have always been simple but incredibly relevant: love, war, life, death, sex.
